When the kids were little, we used to play a game called "I Spy". One of them would say, "I Spy, with my two eyes..." and then they'd call out the name of something they wanted us to see. "I spy it" we'd yell, pointing to the small blue bicycle leaning up against the tree. It's a great game. It forces us to look really closely. To see things we might have missed. To open our eyes, if you will, to another person's perspective.
Lately, I've realized that I've stopped seeing, in favor of looking. I've stopped noticing the things that are right in front of me. My eyes fixed on the next thing, I'm missing what is.
A magnificent gnarled oak. The reflection of the March rains. A message of hope written on the concrete steps. Things to notice, if only we would see.
If you stop looking, what do you see?
