Three years ago, when I walked the Frances route of the Camino de Santiago, I knew i would walk again. I imagined it would be the next year, or in 2021, but then COVID happened and we all know that story. Today, as you read this, I am finally on my way back to the Camino de Santiago, to walk the Camino Primitivo, the oldest route of the many to the holy town of Santiago de Compostela. The Primitivo is believed to be the route walked by King Alfonso II of Asturias in the 9th century. If you’re interested in following along, I will be posting pictures on my Instagram account @mamasuzanna.
As well, the inaugural season of From Sparks to Light finished last week. Look for a new season in the fall. In the meantime, this week I’m sharing a BONUS EPISODE of an interview I did with Leigh Brennan, the host of the Camino Cafe podcast. In it we talk about walking the Camino as well as my book Estrellas that I wrote the year following my first journey. I hope you’ll listen.
Finally, as I walk I’m raising money for World Central Kitchen, the amazing NGO begun by Chef José Andrés, one of my real life heroes and a Spaniard himself. As of this writing I’m just shy of my goal of $3,000 and so there’s still plenty of time to donate. In return for donations of $100 or more, I am offering a signed copy of my new book in gratitude for your generosity. Incidentally, Estrellas earned a finalist nomination for the Next Generation Indie Book Awards and I couldn’t be more pleased.
You can listen to the BONUS episode here.
Buen Camino.
